Let's talk trends...

What trends are good to pay attention to? Which ones are simply a scam? How can you spot the difference and maintain your confidence when you don't follow them?

"If it makes you happy, it doesn't have to make sense to anyone else."

So, here's the thing... Trends are "trending" for a reason, right? The masses have decided that this is the best color for your home, that item is a must-have for your kitchen. The main issue I have with ideation is that it completely dissolves the uniqueness of your space. While many times the newest trend is appealing and beautiful and could very well be a good addition to space, be mindful of whether you're purchasing something or changing something because you actually like it because everyone else likes it. I know I fallen into the trap of trends time and time again, thinking it be worth it if I'm seeing it everywhere! Then, after two months, it winds up sitting in a bin in the closet, never to be again. Let alone the fact that what's trending now can and will change in the blink of an eye, making it impossible to keep up with; it's financially, mentally and sometimes physically exhausting. Let me give some examples of that were all the rage just five years ago and compare them to what's trending now in 2026.

Stark whitescool tones, matte black hardware, grey thin-plank vinyl flooring, angular lines, very minimal, low effort

Mushroom/ warm tones colors, Mixed-metal gold tone hardware, Natural hard wood flooring, arches and soft lines, color drenching, maximal

Notice how, if you were to try to keep up with the shift in trends, you would have to completely remodel your home, including flooring, hardware, paint colors, decor, and more. All within the span of few years, just to have the trends change again shortly after. This is why I am a strong believer in creating a space that YOU love. Maybe your preference is grey vinyl flooring, but you also want arches and a ton color everywhere. That's okay and welcomed in most designers' minds. You don't need a degree to know what you like. So, time you see that green cabinets and brass hardware are all the rage, really consider if it's what YOU want and if it's something you could see lasting for a while while the trends pass by around you.
